Description

Welcome to Wanderwood - a handsomely renewed craftsman home. Nestled among the majestic redwoods and just minutes from downtown Guerneville and the Russian River, you'll appreciate special touches like vintage light fixtures, antique glass windows, reclaimed old growth redwood, and period brass doorknobs. Spend days and evenings on the considerable deck and terrace overlooking the Russian River Valley. Cozy up to the woodstove in the stylishly appointed great room. Soak in the hot tub set into a fairy ring of redwoods. Enduring rustic interiors serve as the perfect backdrop for your wine country getaway.

Upstairs you'll enjoy the full kitchen and formal dining room, sun-soaked office, living room, small water closet, and access to the main deck and hot tub area. Downstairs, three bedrooms, a second living room, and full bathroom with jetted tub allow you to spread out or gather during your retreat. Just installed mini-split heating and A/C units add to your comfort year round.

Know Before You Book:

Maximum Occupancy and Quiet Hours: The maximum occupancy at Wanderwood is 6 people. Quiet hours are from 10:00 pm until 7:00 am. Outdoor amplified sound is prohibited at all times.

Parking: There is parking for 2 smaller cars in a dedicated (gravel-lined) spot at the bottom of the stairs. Please be careful to pull vehicles fully off the road to allow room for everyday traffic and emergency vehicles. There is very skinny "shoulder" parking on the same side of the street as the house if you are very careful. RVs, trailers and campers are prohibited, per the Sonoma County Vacation Rental Ordinance.

Bed Sizes: Bedroom 1: Queen bed; Bedroom 2: Queen bed; Bedroom 3: Full bed.

Heat Source: There are individual baseboard and electric heaters in each bedroom plus a woodstove in the upper living room (firewood and kindling are not provided) and mini-split heater and A/C units in each living room upstairs and downstairs. The gas fireplace in the downstairs living room photos is disabled and will be removed soon.

Cooling: There are two mini-split heating and A/C units - one in each living room - upstairs and downstairs. There are also portable fans in each bedroom closet and for common areas.

Location: Old Monte Rio Road is a narrow, one-lane country road - you may need to pull over for oncoming traffic. The road is paved but not necessarily smooth. Additionally, the surrounding side streets are narrow and steep with little to no street parking or shoulder.

Stairs: Wanderwood is a two story home - uphill from the parking area. There are approximately 30 stairs, with several landings, from the parking area to the front door and 16 stairs from the lower level of the home to the upper level of the home. The bedrooms are downstairs with a living room and full bathroom while the kitchen, dining, office, 2nd living room, and powder room are upstairs. There is a path up the hill to the hot tub.

Fencing: The property as a whole is not fenced, but the upper deck and lower porch and yard are fully fenced. The yard in front of the house is great as a dog run.

Common Amenities not included:
The water closet upstairs does not have a sink, but is a few steps to the kitchen sink.

Proximity to wineries: The closest tasting rooms are in downtown Guerneville (1.6 miles), but there are many, many vineyards and at-winery tasting rooms within 10 miles of the house.

Nearest River Beach: The nearest river beach is a neighborhood beach in Guernewood Park - 0.8 miles from the house. Parking is limited.

Nearest Ocean Beach: In Jenner, 12 miles away.

Wonderful cabin in the woods. Gorgeous evergreens all around with a great top-floor patio to enjoy the fresh smell of trees while enjoying the morning coffee. This home was everything we needed and more. The hot tub sits perfectly in a sea of trees, creating a private and nature-filled experience. The kitchen had everything to cook nearly any meal, and because of the windows, we felt like we were outside even when we were inside. Even more, when it was time to settle on the couch, the tv provided all streaming apps and we could watch to our hearts' content. We had a wonderful, extremely relaxing stay! The house has a lot of space to spread out but at the same time is really cozy. You really do need to bring any sort of "consumable" cooking supplies you may need like spices, oil, flour. We had to run to Safeway after checking in to the house, but luckily the store is EXTREMELY close! We absolutely would stay again!! - via Airbnb

I had an amazing stay at the Guerneville River home. The home was everything I was looking for and more. A highlight was the private hot tub amongst redwoods in the backyard. Even though it was a rainy weekend, we enjoyed the tub and staying in the cozy home, with just one reason to exit - a local wine tasting. I loved the layout of the home, allowing us to enjoy different activities in different spaces and also coming together in the common spaces to share meals and laughs on the couch. I will definitely consider returning to Guerneville River homes next year, thank you so much for our stay! - via Airbnb

We had a great time at Wanderwood. Everything was exactly as described. Even though we came during the winter, the house was kept very warm and cozy with all of the heating options in the rooms, as well as the lovely indoor wooden fireplace. The TV/soundsystem downstairs was awesome for a great movie night and the kitchen upstairs was well-stocked to make a great dinner. Came here to celebrate my birthday with a few close friends, and this accommodation and location did not disappoint! It was a beautiful home that had everything we needed. We felt completely at peace in the middle of the woods with our hot tub :) The aesthetic was warm, inviting, and modern. The layout of the home and the various hang-out spots outside on the deck allowed for variety each night. We absolutely loved our weekend getaway here! We really enjoyed our stay and would absolutely book again. The home was beautiful and had all the things needed for a quiet getaway. The furniture and beds were comfy, and the kitchen had nice appliances and all the gadgets needed for cooking. Movie nights, relaxing in the hot tub amongst the redwoods, and enjoying the sun going down on the deck were highlights. We wish we could have stayed longer. This property is located in a beautiful forest adjacent to the Russian River. The house is immaculately maintained and decorated with eclectic mid-century furniture. We loved the outdoor space set amongst the trees that was excellent for star gazing opportunities. The hot tub was magically placed amongst tall trees. This house was perfect for our 6 person getaway in August! The hot tub and the deck were great spaces to hang out in as a group. The bedrooms were quite private. The upstairs home office actually came handy as a couple of us worked during vacation for a bit. We used the kitchen a lot, and while there isn’t a lot of counter space, it was completely functional. Being so close to town was great if we needed anything at the store or to go out to dinner. The setting is so serene and the trees surrounding the hot tub made for very relaxing evenings. the only problem we had was starting the gas heater on the first floor. It's quite finicky and it took a long time for my husband to get it to light on the first 2 days when we needed it. Otherwise the house was really lovely and comfortable - it's a really special house! Thank you so much for sharing it.-via Vrbo

We had a wonderful stay at Wanderwood. It was the perfect cozy getaway for our group of five friends. The woods surrounding the house were beautiful and peaceful, the rooms were comfy, the gas fireplace and wood-burning stove kept us nice and warm (though do bring your own firewood), and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook some great meals. The hot tub under the trees was particularly great, even in the rain. On top of that, the team at River Homes was extremely responsive and thoughtful. I'd love to come stay here again!-via Airbnb

We booked this space for a birthday weekend and couldn't have asked for something better. We enjoyed the beautiful trees, hot tub, cozy fireplace! The cabin maximizes for views. It rained all weekend and it was beautiful to watch the rain from inside. Upstairs part doesn't have a heater but once we got the fireplace running it warmed up. The kitchen was completely stocked for us to make an amazing meal. It's close Safeway if you need to shop. Overall I would highly recommend booking this if you are looking to be surrounded by nature while having all the comforts. Host was very responsive.-via Airbnb

We really enjoyed our stay at Wanderwood. What an amazing and magical place! Close to Guerneville and the best bakery in the area. This quaint home was perfect for our family of 3 plus a large dog. Arrive early to turn on the heating during the fall and winter and then leave someone to nest while you grab groceries (just a 4 min drive to Safeway) and the home will be warm before you know it! Or just chill in the splendid and new hot tub while watching the mist rise through the redwoods. Kitchen has just about everything including a nice assortment of herbs and spices and tools! Beds are comfy and with great pillows. Baseboard heaters in the bedrooms do wonderfully well! Plenty of storage space for unpacking. Bathrooms are fine and shower/bath had good pressure!-via Airbnb

Our family had a wonderful stay at Wanderwood. One of our favorite Airbnb finds! Close access to the River, Wine country, and downtown Guerneville (recommend Big Bottom Market’s biscuits and sandwiches). The house was nicely decorated with comfortable furniture that felt more like a home than a rental. Nestled in the redwoods and just removed from the busy & noisy River Road kept the house both quiet and cool even when temps were in the 80s. Hot tub was great! Plenty of space for our family of 5 + dog.

Lovely spot near the river amongst gorgeous redwoods. Really such a beautiful setting! The house is really well equipped (nice speaker for music, lots of kitchen items, which was great for us as we love to cook). We really enjoyed having coffee and breakfast on the expansive deck upstairs. House was very dog friendly. Lots of cute coffee shops and restaurants very close by!-via Airbnb

This is a nice little getaway. I had trouble finding it and they went above and beyond to drive over and show me how to get there. I really appreciated that! The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you need for cooking, there’s a good sound system (you need to download an app to connect to your phone - easy!) good WiFi, the decks are beautiful and the hot tub feels pretty private.-via Airbnb

This home is fantastic! The location is beautiful and peaceful but close enough that it is easy to head into town. The hot tub and outdoor spaces are comfortable and private. The house is fantastic!! Our favorite things: - The location is incredible! On the side of a huge hill surrounded by breathtaking trees on the deck and hot tub. The pictures don’t do the outside spaces justice. - Guerneville is a great town with yummy food options, antiques, and shopping. - A 5-minute drive from Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve, 20 minutes from the coast. - Beds were very comfy, linens were high quality, and the heaters in the bedrooms kept those spaces warm. - Super clean! You can't go wrong with this property - it has everything that you need for a relaxing getaway. The hot tub is positioned perfectly behind the house so that you feel nestled with the redwood trees. The kitchen is super stylish and living room is super cozy, and the beds are very comfortable. A lot of work went into this house to make it a superb spot to kick back and relax with friends and family! A+++

Perfect location in a lovely neighborhood -- within walking distance to a beach and so close to town. The home is lovely -- really everything you need is right here. The property is just amazing -- big trees everywhere. It is in a neighborhood but it feels very private. We really were having a hard time bringing ourselves to leave and are already talking about when we can come back.

This is such an amazing place to stay! The property has a great view of the surrounding beautiful trees and is in a very peaceful setting that can help your stresses melt away. It's spacious and comfortable with 3 bedrooms and has lots of areas to lounge and chat. The kitchen is large and fully loaded with all necessities and more. Loved all the little touches of style throughout the house and the general feeling of coziness. Would highly recommend this place to stay and hope to stay again in the future!

I have been to Wanderwood twice now, and I honestly enjoyed everything about my stays. The location is stunning, surrounded by redwood trees. I especially enjoyed watching the fog roll through the trees in the morning and then blow over to reveal a sunny day with blue skies. The house itself is well stocked and easy to make feel like home. We cooked most of our meals using the kitchen and grill. From the comfy beds to the stylish common spaces, the deck to the hot tub, this is a great place to enjoy with friends and family.

Very nice property with extremely tasteful decor. As beautiful as everything is, it is more functional than comfortable. The seating areas around both TVs were super stylish, but not ideal as far as comfort goes. Same is true for the outdoor chairs. But…there's the hot tub to work out those kinks! Also, you may need the tub after the workout you'll get from walking up and down all those stairs! Not a property for the elderly or any other folks who can't easily climb stairs, that's for sure! But, for the rest…it's a great place to get some rest and relaxation. It is close to town, but seems far away (although you might hear highway noise). If the property was right on the river, it'd be AMAZING, but…we knew before we booked that it is a short drive (or medium walk) away from the water, so…wishful thinking. In any case, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Oh, and…the propane grill was awesome too!

I had a wonderful stay at Wanderwood - I could not have asked for a better Russian River getaway. Every aspect of the property was clearly well designed and thought out. Location: Super close to the main drag of Guerneville, Vacation Beach, and Sunset Beach (great proximity for floating down the river)House: The common spaces were perfect for a larger group. The two living rooms and large deck (with very trendy outdoor furniture) were great for lounging and barbecueing.Amenities: The laundry was helpful after a day out on the river. Everything was clean and well appointed. The jacuzzi was a main selling point for us and it lived up to our expectations - it was so cool to be surrounded by redwoods. I did notice some mosquitoes - I recommend some bug spray.

We had a wonderful stay at Wanderwood and can't wait to come back. The location is perfect - just remote enough for a peaceful, private escape, while just a short drive to town, local beaches, hikes, and more. We grilled out and spent most of our time on the deck under the Redwoods, when we weren't floating on the river. The interiors are gorgeous and comfortable - we cant wait to bring our family and friends here.

We spent a long weekend here and it was just absolutely beautiful and relaxing. The place is much bigger in person with plenty of space for the 5 of us and our puppy. It had two enclosed areas to keep him outdoors while being secured. The hot tub is just way too fabulous as you have redwood trees all around you that totally transport you somewhere magical. The kitchen is super well stocked with everything you need to grill outside on the great size grill. All the furniture is super comfortable and beautiful. We were so close to town so it was easy to go walking to get brunch close by and we also enjoy some tubing at the Russian River beaches close by. Can't wait to go back to this place!
