The Russian River Resort Area has a long-standing vacation tradition. After logging ceased in the early 1900’s, the trains that had been transporting lumber started transporting visitors. People came by train from San Francisco and all around the Bay Area and the Russian River became a bustling tourist spot.  The 1920’s at the Russian River were a highpoint, and train travel to the area continued until the railroads were dismantled around 1935. People continued to visit summer cabins in the Russian River, a tradition carried on today by our wonderful guests.

West County Countryside - Away from the river valley, the landscape changes to the scenic countryside, with rolling hills, apple orchards, wineries, and vineyards. Wine tasting is very popular in this part of the county. So are Farm Trails excursions, Farm-to-Table dining experiences, spas, shopping, beer tasting and dining. Sebastopol, the largest town west of Santa Rosa, and is worth a visit. The Barlow is a recently-constructed point of interest, and houses a brewery, a distillery, and ice cream parlor, a community market, wine-tasting rooms, boutiques and restaurants. The Sonoma Coast – At the west edge of the county is a lovely and accessible stretch of coastline. The 10 mile stretch of coast from Bodega Bay to Jenner has a number of dog-friendly State Beaches. Hwy 1 runs right along the coastline, and parking for the beaches is just off the road. North of Jenner, the coastline becomes more dramatic as the cliffs get higher and the hills become steeper. A great scenic drive, this is also the way to Fort Ross State Park, a former Russian Fort built in 1812.
