Monte Rio Treehouse has an abundance of character! From three stories in the majestic redwood trees to a gumball machine, to a hidden bedroom, the house sits at the crossroads of adventure and convenience. You can mosey at your own pace to several beaches along the Russian River, tennis courts, skate park, playground, bars, restaurants, and the beloved Rio Theater. Hop in the car and you're a short drive to the Sonoma Coast, zip line adventure near Occidental, wineries and oodles of activities.

Or hang out at this much-loved cabin - cooking up a fantastic meal with local produce, watch the game, BBQ or just sip a glass of wine (or beer) under the towering trees.

On the second story, the main entrance to the house leads into a cozy living room with a gas fireplace, large flat-screen TV (with movie library and Xbox), wrap-around sofa, master and second bedrooms, laundry room and full bathroom. Did you say hidden bedroom? Behind the living room bookshelf, you'll find the master bedroom with a queen bed and mini-bed (see note below), access to a balcony with propane BBQ, and a delightful spot to snuggle in for the night. Don't feel like going upstairs to the kitchen for a refill? No need, there's a mini fridge and beverage station at the bottom of the interior stairs between the 2nd and 3rd levels of the house.

The third level feels like you're perched in your childhood dream treehouse - you are way, way up in the redwood trees! This uppermost level of the home contains a delightfully remodeled kitchen with granite countertops, dining room, full bathroom and third bedroom. There's also a little deck and outdoor stairs to the second and ground levels of the home. The Monte Rio Treehouse beautifully blends modern un-cluttered décor and amenities with the rustic charm of a 1950's river cabin.

The fully fenced yard promises entertainment for both kids and adults. With a large table and seating, you can dine outside or watch the kids hunt for banana slugs, stellar jays or squirrels.

Boho Manor (and their Gatsby-inspired restaurant and jazz speakeasy, spa, high-tea, brunch, and yoga sessions) is across the street. Formerly the Village Inn, new owners have re-imagined the property and recommend reservations. Highland Dell (German) Restaurant is a couple doors down as well.

Know Before You Book:

Maximum Occupancy and Quiet Hours: The maximum occupancy at Monte Rio Treehouse is 6. Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. Outdoor amplified sound is prohibited at any time.

Security Cameras: For the safety of guests and the home, there are exterior security cameras, at the front and back doors.

Parking: On-site parking is permitted for a maximum of 3 vehicles. RVs, trailers and campers are prohibited, per the Sonoma County Vacation Rental Ordinance.

Kitchen: This home does not have a dishwasher.

Sleeping Arrangements: There is a mini bed in the master bedroom that can accommodate a small child. Please note that we do not provide any bedding for this bed.

Heat Source: Gas Fireplace, electric heaters.

A/C: The house does not have air conditioning. Being near the coast, the nighttime temps drop and just opening some windows is usually enough to cool the house.

Stairs: There are approx. 30 stairs from the parking area to the third story. From the parking area to the second story (entry level), there are approx. 20 stairs.

Work from HERE: Just outside the kitchen and next to the dining area is a desk and chair with outlets.
Advertised Wifi Speed: 300 mbps

Firepit/Chimenea: Due to local restrictions, wood-burning firepits and chimeneas are no longer allowed at vacation rentals. The chimenea at this home has been removed.

We stayed in late August to beat the Sacto heat. Pros: Super cool house with a secret room and hot tub. Tons of movies to watch. Amazing setting in the trees high up above street level. close to town for supplies/river/movie ect...walkable, bike would be better though Really close to a local hotel bar. (like 50 ft.) A little further away is a weird German restaurant with weird patrons and excellent food. Monte Rio has a cool Skatepark Right near the entrance to Bohemian Grove (the secret culty meeting spot for the most powerful rich men in the world) Everything worked great and was functional, all in all its a great spot. Cons: Skylights above beds have no option to cover them, so wake up early. One was kinda dirty/webby with what looked like tape hanging off of it from someone's attemp to cover it.. The house did not have enough toilet paper. unfortunate surprise. Stairs lots of stairs....not bad for me but people should know who have mobility issues. Hot tub wouldn't go above 98 degrees after servicing. It was fine before. Review... I would recommend this place!!-via Vrbo

This place worked well with our family of five coming together in a beautiful area for a few days. There were a couple of things that didn't go as planned. The book needs to be updated with when the Farmer's Market (now on Thursdays) is held and we never found the Village Inn Restaurant. The upstairs mattress needs to be replaced. My group and I had a fun time at this house over Memorial Day weekend 2023. It is a vertical arrangement, so I would not recommend it if you have someone with mobility issues in your group. The kitchen is on the top floor. The hang-out spaces and the outdoor spaces are really fabulous. The location is insane!!! The house was so cool! Loved the secret room behind the bookshelf! Things within walking distance. The weather was perfect. The restaurant on the corner Boho Manor such good food. And the view from the back....chef's kiss! We had dinner @ the Rio Cafe & Grill. Hands down the best food and homemade ice-cream EVER!! Would def drive there to eat A LOT...if it weren't for the 3hr drive. Loved that could walk to most places. Loved getting up and opening all the windows in the morning. Really nice home. A little dated but has everything you may need. Weirdly, directions say to start the dishwasher when we leave but no dishwasher. Wish there was a bit more comfortable seating in the house but I think this is more of a summer location and more time is spent outdoors. Loved all the outdoor decks and benches on the decks. We spent 3 night at the house with family. Overall we had a great time, everyone was comfortable and we really appreciated being able to bring our dog. The location was great, just a short walk to the river and the redwood trees were amazing. The house itself is pretty quirky - it has a lot of character and we enjoyed it but there are a few things to note. The multiple levels offer separation which is great when you want some peace and quiet from the kids, but it makes it hard to all hang out in one place. The kitchen could be stocked a little better and not having a dishwasher is a bit inconvenient (but it wasn't a surprise). The house is a little older and it shows, but we didn't really mind that. All in all, we had a pleasant stay.

What a gem! This home was just what we were looking for in a stay that was safe enough to travel during covid. The home was so welcoming! Our 13yo was so excited to stay in the hidden bedroom. My 10yo loved the bunk bed. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils, silverware and plates/bowls. We were missing BBQ supplies but we contacted the company via email and we had a set delivered that same day. We were supposed to bring our 15yo chihuahua with us as this is a dog friendly home. Honestly so glad we didn't. The home has LOTS OF STAIRS! Not a problem for the family but the dog may have had problems. Carport and hot tub on the ground level, then 2 bedrooms, full bathroom, living space and outdoor bbq on main floor, finally the kitchen a bedroom and full bath on the top floor. Be forewarned, you need to be capable to walk up numerous flights. Others have mentioned the neighbor's dogs. Yes, they have dogs that bark a lot but not enough to trouble us. This home is secluded and in a small town. We didn't explore the town much but it is not far from bigger towns. It's about 25 mins off the 101 on 116. Our route via GPS gave us directions off 116...it was a very windy ride. During our stay we visited Safari West in Santa Rosa. That was about a 40 min drive. This home isn't too far from outdoor activities. Truly a hidden gem!-via Airbnb

This home was absolutely stunning and we had the most fabulous stay. The stairs weren’t a problem at all (however there are quite a few of them so a heads up) and everything was very clearly labeled and marked! Had a really good time at the Treehouse in Monte Rio. The house is pretty fun to stay in, has a really nice patio area to sit out on. The wifi even works so if you come here to work or do whatever, that is a big benefit :) The hot tub is also great.The neighbors next door have a dog that barks at every passing dog which can get really annoying, but other than that - no qualms about the area. It's really quiet otherwise.I would definitely stay here again!

We had a great family vacation at the Monte Rio Treehouse. The home was welcoming and just the right size for our family. The river and beaches were close by for our daily use. Walking the dogs was certainly not a chore here, walking among the redwoods, on a quiet road was lovely. We had a nice stay at Monte Rio Treehouse. The location was great - just a few minutes walk to the river and 15 minutes drive to the ocean. The house was comfortable and stayed cool under the redwoods despite the 90+ degree weather. Hot tub was a nice perk for the cooler evenings! Kitchen was well stocked, although a dishwasher would have been nice since we cooked most meals. Our only complaint was the incessant barking from the neighborhood dogs, which disturbed our sleep and made our sweet lab very anxious.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed the Monte Rio Treehouse. It was the perfect location being a short walk from the Russian River and a quick drive to Armstrong Redwoods, the ocean, and a ton of little towns with great restaurants and shops. We loved the unique layout of the house and the kids really enjoyed the hidden bedroom. Sitting on the deck among the redwoods was amazing. It was hard to leave. On our next visit, we plan to stop at some of the many wineries that are also close.

We loved the Treehouse and the area has fun activities for the whole family between the nearby Redwood park and river. The property is well maintained, had lots of supplies in the kitchen and laundry room, and any last minute items we needed were available at Bartlett's store about a 5 minute walk away. My group and I really enjoyed our stay at the Monte Rio Treehouse. Great value for a pet friendly 3 bedroom home. I contacted Russian River Vacation Rental headquarters to ask about their pet policy and the lady over the phone was accommodating and informative. Check in and check out was very easy. The house is very well stocked and has a lovey collection of books, DVD's and Xbox games. We did not get a chance to use the hottub. On our second day we went on a wine tour and visited Porter Bass Winery, Joseph Swan Vineyards, Russian River Vineyards, and Fog Crest winery. We had a wonderful time wine tasting and eating lunch at the Russian River vineyards listening to live music. The house is within walking distance of a couple of good restaurants: The Village Inn and Restaurant, and Rio Cafe Take 2. Also within walking distance is beach access to the Russian River. Only complaint was the yard had dog poop left behind and a couple of glasses from the house. Also the hidden bedroom bookshelf doors are a little squeaky. I will definitely use Russian River Vacation Homes again when looking to stay in the Russian River area.

I was very nice, love the yard where the dogs could run around and play without a leash. Also, used the hot tub in the evening and it was nice and clean. Only issue was there was no TV in the upstairs, so one of the guest had to come down and watch the TV in the lower unit. Otherwise, it was ideal and will go there again next year.Raul Escamilla

A Fantastic Family Getaway

The Monte Rio Tree House was a fantastic launch pad for our family adventures! The Tree House was cozy and fun and the kids loved the secret bedroom and the gumball machine. We enjoyed Goat Rock, Jenner Beach, Timber Cove, Healdsburg and Armstrong Redwood State Preserve...all easy access from the property. The bedrooms were comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. We even saw fur seals swimming in the river from the beach! What fun! We will definitely be back! One word of caution, many of the restaurants in close proximity to the treehouse were closed during the week since it still is "off season" which made us scramble for a dinner option the first night. Just keep that in mind.
