Follow the trails… You’ll enjoy views of the creek and towering trees throughout this acre+ property.

Outdoor dining, multiple patios and decks, a shade-graced hot tub, and outdoor shower keep your attention in the immediate space around the house, but inside is fantastic too!

Restful 3 nights

Reviewed on 2024-04-02 by Giselle Bergeron , Anchorage, Alaska USA

We used the upstairs section of the house and only went into the downstairs unit to turn off the porch lights, so my comments will reflect that. Check in was easy with a door combination given a week before arrival. The drive from the Santa Rosa airport was uneventful, with a stop at Safeway in Guerneville for food supplies. Good thing, too. Buck Hollow was so restful, we didn't want to get in the car and drive anywhere. There's a nice living room with an amazing Lego Titanic as artwork. Walking further into the house, we were met with windows. Lots of windows and skylights that brought in the late afternoon sun. Off to the left is the kitchen; to the right is a table and sitting area that faces the fireplace (we forgot to kindling at Safeway, so if you want to have a fire, remember that wood is provided, but not kindling.). This is one of the places where there are sliding glass doors to the outside. The windows give a stupendous view of the creek. There had been a storm the day before we arrived, which meant there was lots of water pounding through the rocks. The kitchen is nicely stocked and the dishware has personality rather than a generic white that is often found in vacation rentals. Moving down the hall, there is a small bedroom with a queen bed overlooking the creek. The view is awesome. Opposite the bedroom is a bathroom with a combo shower/jacuzzi tub (5 feet in length.) Further down the hallway you enter the master bedroom, which holds a king bed, built in shelving with drawers and holds a tv on top, along with a built-in couch and a stand alone chair. Because this room has two walls of windows and the other two walls are mirrors, it feels light and cheerful even on an extremely rainy day (which we had on our first full day there). The bed was comfortable and the attached bathroom is unique. On our second full day, the rain stopped overnight and we were able to use the hot tub which overlooks the creek. The sun was warm and especially nice for sun-starved Alaskans. Later we walked up the road and watched a field of sheep. The whole experience was pastoral, and so relaxing. The staff at River Homes were extremely responsive when I had questions about the heating system. I never did get the hang of changing the temperature, but that was okay because once the sun came out the house warmed up quickly with all the windows. (there are a bunch of skylights, too). Overall I'd give this house an 11/10. A big thanks to the owners and the vacation rental company. PS - Oh, did I mention rocks? The hot tub platform is actually built on a glacier erratic and there are little rock surprises inside the house in various places. Finding them brought a smile to face..

Overall, we had a great stay at Buck Hollow! The kitchen is well equipped and access to the creek is really priceless. Two heads up to folks considering booking: 1) the house provides deet and candles bc there are a lot of mosquitoes, so just be aware 2) WiFi was fine but there was zero cell reception so we had to use the house phone to call maintenance which sounded like it was routed to a call center. -via Airbnb

Manager's Response

Hello Karina, We are so glad you enjoyed your stay overall at Buck Hollow! It is in a rural wooded area, so we recommend deet and things of the like in the information we send guests before arrival. The last guests may have left it behind, as we do not leave candles in or outside of homes due to fire concerns. Depending on your cell service provider, you may not have reception, but all of our homes do have landlines for guests to use for incoming and outgoing calls. You may have contacted the after-hours folks who work remotely from southern CA. We appreciate your feedback and review!

This place was beautiful and the assistance from the property manager was top-notch. I forgot my jacket at the home and they have been kind to communicate with me about it and will hold it or ship it to me. The place is quiet and you can hear the river. There are quite a few steps to go down to the creek but the home inside had no steps on the first floor, which was a plus for my elderly parents.-via Airbnb

Gorgeous location. Very private and feels like a resort! You can hop down into the creek from the backyard if you'd like, it is a truly wonderful property to explore. And very clean and comfortable inside- great for a large group like we were, cooking dinners and doing puzzles :) Master bedroom is palatial!! One thing we didn't realize is that the pullout bed is in the attached studio, not in the main house- so we had someone end up sleeping on the couch just for the level of privacy we expected (which was comfortable though!). So this place has a main floor with a grand master bedroom, a lovely second bedroom, and a huge living room- and beneath that, a studio unit that has an extra sofa bed.-via Airbnb

We closed out the summer with a vacation at this breathtaking rental. This place feels carved out of a storybook - a stunning, spacious home amidst a dramatic backdrop of giant boulders & trees on a sparkling clear creek. This home checks all the boxes: Tons of natural light, spacious common areas & bedrooms, everything updated & modern, large kitchen is open & very well stocked, cozy fireplace, washer/dryer, super comfy furniture & beds, tons of outdoor seating on both front and back patios, BBQ, hot tub and a gorgeous outdoor shower!. Also, a studio bedroom on bottom level complete with full bath, kitchen and its own living area. We spent our time there with cherished friends - we created delicious meals in the incredible kitchen, enjoyed listening to the creek & hanging out on the patios soaking in nature, romped around the property trails with the pups, hit up the general store for any supplies (a must!!), devoured pizza & live music @ Raymond’s Bakery, even made the short drive out to the ocean to walk along the beach! We simply cannot wait to get back to Buck Hollow - five stars hands down!!

To say that staying at Buck Hollow is a magical experience would be an understatement. As soon as you make your way down the steep driveway, you feel as if you’ve entered a serene and enchanted space. The trees seem like they’re whispering to you and the air feels slightly different. The house is gorgeous: spotless and roomy. There is enough space to have a feeling of privacy but also just cozy enough to feel intimate. The separate studio downstairs is great for anyone wanting some extra privacy. The creek that runs through the property is perfect for warm summer days. Our kids (ages 7 and 9) were in heaven exploring and climbing the rocks and swimming in the several small dipping pools (but parental supervision is a must). Lounging in the hot tub or showering in the heated outdoor shower feels absolutely decadent and the patio is spacious and complete with a gas grill and shaded dining table. There is a semi hidden walking trail on the property that is great for some solo meditation or a romantic stroll. All in all, Buck Hollow is an amazing get away for anyone in need of the ultimate forest bathing experience.

We were guests at the property over the summer and had a fantastic time: the house, the appliances and the barbeque, any utensils – everything you would wish for was available and in excellent condition. The luxurious home is tucked away on Ward Creek, which also crosses the plot. In early to mid-summer, the creek forms a small natural pool with refreshing cool water at the border of the property. Our children (11 and 15 years of age) had a great time wandering up and down through the creek. The outdoor shower has a tropical feel to it, cools you down on warm days, while outdoor meals on the backyard patio were fabulous. Sunsets and evenings are magical in the hot tub, especially enjoyable with a glass of excellent local, Russian River wine: Korbel, Gary Ferrell, Moshin, Porter Creek are 20-40 minutes’ drive. Trips to Russian River with many options to kayak/swim/enjoy beach days, as well as to the world famous wineries are a must. The Pacific Coast is a quick drive away and gives you numerous options to cool down or enjoy the fantastic oysters right off the boat. Do not miss out on local events like the Russian River Rodeo in Duncans Mills or the local music festivals in and around Guerneville. We will definitely come back!
